CHOK MAA
Artist Residency

Open Friday – Saturday or by appointment only
84 Charoen Nakhon 13 Alley, Khlong San, Bangkok, Thailand 10600

In 2026, CHALK HORSE opened CHOK MAA, an artist residency based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Owned and run by CHALK HORSE, CHOK MAA – both a loose translation of ‘chalk horse’ in Thai and a prosperous phrase meaning ‘fortune is coming’ – offers artists a chance to expand their practice through 3–5 week studio residencies in Bangkok. The four-level shophouse building features spaces dedicated to the showcasing and creation of art, including two exhibition floors, two studio floors with integrated accommodation and purpose-build art facilities, and an outdoor space.

CHOK MAA officially opened with a group show and celebration in the space on Saturday 18 April 2026. The exhibition featured works by three major artists from the CHALK HORSE stable. Gallery Founder and major Australian artist Jasper Knight presented a suite of paintings never before exhibited in Thailand. Bangkok-based artist Arm Wantaya presented eight key works from 2025, and Sydney-based artist Jason Phu, who inaugurated the first residency, exhibited works created in the CHOK MAA studio.

Applications open June 2026.
