Jason Phu is Vogue Living’s Artist of the Year

Jason Phu is the Vogue Living VL50 Artist of The Year. Compiled by the Vogue Living team, the VL50 represents the creative talent raising the bar and shaping — or shaking up — the Australian arts industry across the fields of interior design, architecture, product design, art and landscape design.

Phu works across painting, drawing, installation and performance, using humour to explore experiences of cultural dislocation and tell personal stories. His references, including calligraphy, language, toys and pop culture symbols, are employed to create fantastical works and new meanings that will transcend time and culture.

2023 IN FOCUS: The multidisciplinary artist turned heads with his performance installation “Without Us You Would Have Never Learnt About Love” at Dark MOFO. He says another “fun build” was his installation at The National 4 survey of contemporary Australian art.

This year Phu will be presenting a solo show at CHALK HORSE in April.
