Amber Boardman, Dean Brown, Nathan Hawkes are Finalists in the Hornsby Art Prize
We are delighted to announce Amber Boardman, Dean Brown, and Nathan Hawkes have been named finalists in the Hornsby Art Prize.
Boardman’s work, ‘Wandering in the Desert,’ explores human society and notions of collective storytelling through diorama-like staging, centring primordial motifs such as firelight. “Wandering in the desert evokes a search in the dark… The hands reaching toward each other at the edge of an oasis are embodies and searching,”
Brown’s bold aquatint etching captures time and idiosyncratic modern figures, each shrouded in stillness and anonymity.
Hawkes magnificent colours are rendered through a variety of tactile techniques: mark-making with fingers and hands, masking, sponges, to generate a rough-hewn euphoria and sense of renewal.
