Jason Phu Announced Recipient of the UNSW Alumni Mural Commission
UNSW Library has announced Jason Phu as the recipient of the 2026 Alumni Mural Program
Level 2 Commission.
In early 2027, Jason will create “Journey to the Lake with the Singing Giant of Knowledge”, a large-scale mural transforming the Library’s Level 2 space.
Drawing inspiration from Chinese landscape painting, mythology, storytelling traditions, and the role of libraries as places of discovery, the mural imagines a fantastical world where adventurers gather knowledge from a mythical Singing Giant and carry it back to the earthly realm.
A UNSW alumnus, Jason is known for his imaginative multidisciplinary practice, weaving together history, folklore, personal narratives, and contemporary culture through painting, installation, performance, and moving image works.
