CHALK HORSE will be presenting a suite of new works from Kat Shapiro Wood for a dedicated solo showing.
Shapiro Wood is a Northern Rivers based artist whose deeply material practice spans multiple disciplines and media, principally encaustic ‘painting’, sculpture and ceramics.
Encaustic (an ancient painting process based on the use of a heat-worked pigmented beeswax medium) is exploited for its ability to express expansive, luminous and nuanced fields of colour, while asserting a heightened physicality in its tangible and visual depth, weight and surface quality. An intense ‘objectness’ in her approach to painting softens the boundaries between the two and three dimensional.
